The Peechi Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary is located in
the Thrissur/Trichur district of Kerala. It is spread over an area of
125sq km and is around 20 km east of Thrissur. The Peechi Vazhani
wildlife sanctuary is a part of the Palapilli Nelliampathy forests.
There is abundance of flora and fauna life in and around the sanctuary.
It is certainly a magnificent place for nature lovers. Besides the flora
and fauna at the sanctuary, one can also enjoy boat ride at the Lake in
the sanctuary.
At the Peechi Vazhani wildlife sanctuary, there are numerous rare
medicinal plants and herbs, teak, rosewood and many more. The wildlife
population at the sanctuary includes around 25 types of mammals together
with carnivores like the tiger, leopard and fox and herbivores like the
barking deer, elk, deer, spotted deer, elephant and the bison. The
wildlife sanctuary is also rich in bird life as more than 60 types of
birds and 10 types of snakes are also found here.
