Muthanga is a prominent wildlife sanctuary of Kerala.
It is an ideal place to watch herds of wild elephants. The Muthanga
Wildlife sanctuary lies adjacent to the protected area of the Nagarhole
National Park and the Bandipur tiger reserve in the neighboring state of
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The Muthanga wildlife sanctuary is spread over
an area of 345 sq km and is rich with fauna and flora life. The
sanctuary also comes under the Project elephant.
At the Muthanga wildlife sanctuary, you can easily spot the elephants
and tigers, roaming freely. Various species of deer, monkeys, birds etc
can also be spotted at the wildlife sanctuary. The trees and plants in
the Muthanga sanctuary are typical of the south Indian moist deciduous
forests and semi evergreen forests. The wild animals can be easily
spotted while driving along the road to Muthanga and further.
