Chendamangalam is located about 42 km from Ernakulam
in Kerala. At Chendamangalam a church, a temple, a mosque and the
remains of a Jewish synagogue all lay in close proximity, giving the
perfect example of peaceful co-existence. Apart from these monuments,
nature also unveils her rare combination and beauty at Chendamangalam.
This area was once the dwelling place of the Paliath Achans, the prime
ministers of the Maharajas of Kochi. The residence of the Paliath
Achans, the Paliam Palace, represents the architectural magnificence of
Kerala. The Paliam Palace houses a collection of historic documents and
relics. One can get an unusual view of the church, temple, mosque and
the synagogue from the hillocks at Kottayi Kovilakom. Another place of
interest is the Vypeenkotta Seminary built in the 16th century by the
Portuguese.
