The Bolghatty Island is situated in the historic town
of Fort Kochi in Ernakulam district. The Bolghatty Island is famous for
the palace of the same name. The Bolghatty Palace was built in 1744 by
the Dutch and was later taken over by the British. Today, the Bolghatty
palace is a popular hotel run by the Kerala Tourism Development
Corporation.
The Bolghatty Island has a fine golf course making it an attractive
picnic spot. The palace was once the Governor's palace for the Dutch and
later became the home of the British Governors. The Bolghatty palace is
two-storied containing well-decorated bedchambers and a huge lounge,
which exhibits historical portraits. To reach the Island one can take a
ferry ride from the mainland Ernakulam, which is a pleasing experience
