Muzhappilangad Beach, stretching for about 4.5 kilometers, is a drive-in beach where vehicles can be driven without getting stuck in the sand. Being the only one-of-a-kind in Asia and one of the best ones in the world, the seclusion and tranquility of this beach set this apart from the rest of the shorelines in Kerala. Calm and serene, the Muzhappilangad Beach is mostly isolated and counts among the unchartered territories. This long beach is protected from the deep ocean currents by the huge black rocks that are scattered; thus, forming an unruffled pool of shallow waters. It is due to the shallow waters that this beach is also considered a swimmer's paradise.A cool getaway from the scorching heat of the tropical sun is provided by the swaying palm groves that encircle this magnificent beach. Another excellent nearby attraction that is offered by this beach is a private island, called Dharmadam Island, which means Green Island in English. The island is accessible by a casual walk but only during low tides. When viewed from the Muzhappilangad Beach, the island exhibits a beautiful sight of coconut palms and dense bushes. The beach lies just a kilometer to the west of National Highway NH17 between Kannur and Thalassery. The nearest railway station is Thalassery at 8 km, while the closest airdrome is Kozhikode International Airport at Karipur, about 93 km from Kannur.
