Alappuzha, known as the Venice of East, has always
held a unique place in the maritime history of Kerala. At present,
Alappuzha is famous for its boat races, beaches, backwater holidays,
marine products and coir industry. Being beautiful and clean, the
Alappuzha beach is a popular picnic spot. The pier, which extends into
the sea at Alappuzha, is over 137 years old. Entertainment facilities at
the Beach Park are an added attraction on the beach. The old lighthouse
nearby is another attraction, which fascinates the visitors. Some
