Attappady
Attapaddy is situated on the northeastern side of the district of
Palakkad and spread over an area of 827 sq. km. It has the largest
tribal settlement. The place consists of mostly hilly highland terrain,
fed by the tributaries of the River Cauvery.
Dhoni
Dhoni is a 3-hour trek from the base of the Dhoni Hills to this reserve
forest area with its small, beautiful waterfall.
Manglam Dam
The Mangalam Dam is constructed on the river Cherukunnapuzha, a
tributary of the river Mangalam. A popular picnic site, the Dam is
located 48 km south of Palakkad town.
Nelliyampathy
The mountain ranges here consist of a chain of ridges cut off from one
another by valleys. The highest peak is Nellikota. The forest contains
teak of extraordinary height and girth. Estates of tea, coffee, orange
and cardamom dot these ranges.
Silent Valley National Park
The Silent Valley National Park located 40 km from Mannarkkad in the
Palakkad district, echoes with the sounds of teeming wildlife. It is an
important National park of the country.
Thrithala
About 75 km from Palakkad along the banks of Bharathapuzha River,
Thrithala is known for its Shiva temple. Kattilmadom temple on the
Pattambi-Guruvayoor road has archaeological importance. It has a small
granite structure, a testimony of Buddhist influence, built possibly
during the 9th or 10th century.
Kanjirapuzha
Kanjirapuzha is about 24 km from Palakkad. It is a Catchment lake of
the dam and lies in a single stretch. An evergreen forest, the
'Vettilachola', provides the backdrop to a lake surrounded by hillocks.
During the rains, the mist-draped mountains create a picturesque
landscape.
Kottayi
Kottayi village is the native place of the late Chembai Vaidyanatha
Bhagavathar, the doyen of Carnatic music.
Malayalappuzha
The Bhagavathy temple at Malayalappuzha is believed to help people
realize their dreams. People bring offerings in different forms during
the festival. There are also beautiful wall paintings and artistic stone
works.
Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary
The Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is a reservoir of serene greenery
located in a valley between the Annamalai ranges of Tamil Nadu and the
Nelliampathy ranges of Kerala.
