Aaralam Wildlife Sanctuary
Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary is a serene little sanctuary, located on the
slopes of the Western Ghats. The highest peak of Katti Betta, covered
with tropical and semi- evergreen forests rises to a majestic height and
adds to the landscape of the region.
Dharmadam Island
A Buddhist dominated region, Dharmadam Island is located beside the
Muzhappilangad beach, 100 meters offshore surrounded by rivers and sea.
A conjunction of beach and island, Dharmadam Island was earlier known as
Dharmapattanam.
Jagannatha Festival
Jagannatha Festival is one of the most important festivals of the
region. It is a colorful eight-day festival, which is held in the
Malayalam month of Kumbham (February/ March) at the Jagannatha Temple at
Madathiparambu, near Thalassery in Kannur.
Madayi Mosque
Originally built in 1124 AD by Malic Iben Dinar, a Muslim preacher, the
Madayi is a beautiful ancient mosque. It is said that the mosque's
founder, who came to India to spread the word of the prophet, brought a
white block of marble from Mecca that has been used in the mosque.
Moppila Bay
Moppila bay, the famous fishing harbor is situated near the St.Angelo's
Fort. The beach here is a natural and now a modernized fishing harbor
built with assistance under the Indo Norwegian pact.
St. Angelo's Fort
Fort St.Angelo's is a famous attraction in Kannur. It is located in the
west of Kannur town. It is one of the oldest edifices in the region. The
first Portuguese Viceroy, Don Francisco De Almeida, built it in 1505.
Arakkal Palace
The Arakkal palace is about 2 km. from Kannur town. Arakkal was the
palace of Beebi (Queen) of Arakkal. Having deep historic connotations,
it belongs to Kerala's only Muslim Royal family that controlled parts of
the coastal areas and even Lakshadweep.
Pythal Mala
Pythal Mala is a captivating hill station and is situated near the
Kerala-Karnataka border. Pythalmala is rich in flora and fauna life.
This beautiful, serene and calm hill station is at a distance of 65Km
from Kannur.
