Idukki district.
Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary
The Thatekkad Bird Sanctuary is located in the dense tropical evergreen
and deciduous forests and grassland. It is home to a microcosm of
India's bird population with about 500 winged species. Dr. Salim Ali,
the renowned ornithologist from India was instrumental in setting up of
this bird sanctuary.
Eravikulam Wildlife Sanctuary
Eravikulam Wildlife Sanctuary was set up for the preservation of the
endangered Nilgiri Tahr. The sanctuary stands out for the austere beauty
of its rolling grasslands and sholas, spread over 97 sq. km of
unblemished natural splendor.
Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary
The Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary is located 15 km from Munnar and is the
natural habitat of the Nilgiri Tahr. It is interesting to note that
about half the world population of the rare mountain goat is
concentrated in this region.
Moolamatton
The Idukki Hydroelectric Project's underground powerhouse is located at
Moolamatton. It can be a knowledgeable trip as you can visit Moolamatton
and know the working of a hydroelectric station.
